Bowdon cruised through the first round of the cup with an emphatic 41-10 victory over Knutsford, overcoming near-hurricane conditions at Clay Lane. A clinical attacking display saw Leo Partridge and Sam Ball each cross twice, with further tries from Paul Laurens, Ollie Rydings and Ted Delaney capping a dominant performance. Bowdon controlled the game from start to finish, to secure a comfortable win.

In the quarter-finals, Bowdon faced Lymm RUFC in a rematch of last year’s final, with the elements once again playing a major role. Driving rain and swirling winds turned the contest into a gritty, hardfought battle, where territory and discipline proved crucial. Bowdon’s defence stood resolute throughout, repelling everything Lymm threw at them. In a game defined by few clear-cut opportunities, Bowdon showed composure to take their chance, Paul Laurens calmly slotting a decisive penalty. It proved enough to separate the sides, sealing a hard-earned 3-0 victory in a fiercely contested encounter.

In the semi-finals, Bowdon travelled to Birkenhead Park RFC, once again battling through relentless wet conditions. Much like the previous round against Lymm, the game became a test of resilience, with Birkenhead launching wave after wave of forward pressure, but unable to find a way through Bowdon’s disciplined defence. At the other end, Bowdon combined flair with precision. First-half tries from James Doyle and Paul Laurens set the tone, before the standout moment of the match saw Sam Ball expertly gather a perfectly weighted chip from captain Jack Edmundson to score. Bowdon went into the break with a 17-5 advantage. The second half saw Bowdon take firm control. Doyle added his second with a well-executed number eight move from the scrum, and another try from Ball put the result beyond doubt. By the final whistle, the pitch had turned into a mud-soaked battleground, but Bowdon thrived in the conditions to secure an impressive 29-15 victory and book their place in the final in style.

They now look forward to playing Clady in the Cheshire Cup Final on May 3rd which is to be hosted at Wirral RUFC. This is for the second year running and the final will crown an outstanding season for the U15s, who have lost just one match all year and boast an unbeaten home record stretching over two and a half years. The squad has built its success upon a blend of attractive, expansive rugby and the forward power needed to dominate the contact area.

The coaches are extremely proud of the group’s progress and believe this talented squad has a very bright future ahead.

If you want to catch this team in action pop down to the club on Sunday 12th of April when they will be hosting Leek.
