It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing away of Gwilym Roberts.
Most of you will have seen the posts on social media or on various WhatsApp Groups and email groups. Gwilym was a true Bowdon RUFC person and someone I always looked up to. I have been with Bowdon RUFC for over 32 years and over those years he has helped the Club and myself through some tricky times. He always had time for everyone and never had a bad word to say about anyone and possessed all the values we instill on all our players and coaches young and old. RIP Gwilym, you will not be forgotten x
Over the last week or two I have been asked by members whether subscriptions should be suspended. Management truly understand the difficulty many people will be facing, especially financially and we totally understand if you need to cancel your subscription, as we are not playing any games and the Club House is closed. However, we hope that most of you will continue to pay as it is a nominal monthly amount but the collective subscriptions means a huge amount to the Club. We still have bills and a number of fixed overheads to pay. We are doing are level best to reduce all overheads, take advantage of payment holidays , negotiate supplier terms and apply for Government and RFU initiatives but they will not solve the whole problem.
In addition to the above we want to embark on future fundraising for:
• Maintenance of pitches after a horrendous Winter and kids tearing up ponderosa on motor bikes,
• We desperately need to improve the car park and have received a quote of £20k for a ~make do~ solution that would get us through the next 5-7 years. We are reviewing our options,
• There is a need to extend the Clubhouse so as to increase the number of changing rooms, and
• We would love to create a new entrance to the Marquee Room for functions and increase the size of the kitchen so as to improve the catering proposition.
None of this fundraising has started yet and we would love people to put themselves forward to assist in these projects.
Vicky and Sean have now organised the Off-License offering, which is attached to this email. The procedure is as follows:
• Pre orders only
• Customer contacts Vicky Perrett (“VP”) by e-mail / phone to place order (see attached for her details)
• VP checks and adjust stock level against order
• VP sends a payment request to Customer
• Payment made by BACS / Pay Pal
• Once paid VP advises Sean / Babs and order is prepared, named & stored
• VP advises customer time slot for collection from club
• Customer collects from table at club front door
Purchasing some of your goods from Bowdon will help our cash flow tremendously.
Finally, I know many of the coaches are already preparing for next season and we wish you well. We just can’t wait until we can all start training and playing the game we love so much.
As always if there are any ideas, suggestions or queries please do not hesitate to contact me on tom.fleming@1850group.co.uk.
Yours in Sport
Tom Fleming
Chairman of Bowdon RUFC
